Where is the venue?
The venue for our 2026 edition is the York School of Defence’s regular training venue at the Melbourne Centre on Escrick Street, YO10 4AW. Please use “York School of Defence” on Google Maps as entering “The Melbourne Centre” currently takes you to a mystery location in the middle of York.
One or two days?
Two days for 2026!
What is accessibility like?
The venue has an accessible bathroom as well as a
Where can I get caffeine?
There is a small kitchen on site and tea, coffee, and hot chocolate will be provided.
My tummy is rumbling?
We will furnish you with biscuits and snacks throughout the day, these will be left in the kitchen for you to help yourselves to. If you want a more substantial feed we would recommend bringing a packed lunch or visting a local shop.
A tuck shop will be available throughout the day. This is run solely on a trust basis, please donate generously as all proceeds from this will go towards a relevant lovely charity, so do a good deed and buy sweets, it’s for a good cause!
There is a small Co-Op shop a five minute walk from the venue. It is located at the front of the Staycity Hotel near the Barbican on Paragon Street, York YO10 4AH.
There’s also a small One Stop shop a ten minute walk from the venue. It is located at 47 Heslington Road, York YO10 5AR.
Are there showers and changing facilities on site?
Sadly there are no showers on site, although the bathrooms can be used for changing.
Accommodation? Can we stay on site?
Sadly we cannot offer sleeping accommodation in the venue. I would also suggest chatting to any fellow broadsworders you know may be coming because shared accommodation is often the more cost effective option, and it’s a chance to hang out with even more lovely HEMApeeps.
There are many hotels, guest houses and AirBnB’s in the area that will happily accomodate you.
Is there onsite parking?
Yes. There is an onsite car park with roughly 30 spaces. Two of these are accessible and located closer to the entrance of the venue.
Can I get there on public transport?
York Railway Station is a half-hour walk from the venue, or a short taxi journey.
Is there anything else to do in the area?
There is so much to see and do! Personal recommendations include the National Railway Museum, the Yorkshire Museum of Flight (a short car journey outside of York), and the Castle Museum.
There are oodles of other museums, galleries, historical sites and monuments dotted around the city, as well as plenty of pubs and restaurants.
